Easter Brass Break - 13th - 16th April 2011

The Easter Brass Break took place at Thornford Primary School, Dorset on the above dates. The course itself was a fantastic 3 day event, where all pupils benefited from the fantastic musical direction of Paul Cosh and David Bertie. Also in residence were brass quintet Quintabile, from London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The band received huge support from local organisations and sponsors, including Terry Bartle, of Sherborne. Sherborne Lions club donated £200 towards the course, and it was a great pleasure for Paul Cosh, the band's musical director to receive the cheque, at the finale concert on Saturday 16th.

"Just a quick note to say a MASSIVE thank you and HUGE well done for putting on such a FABULOUS experience for the children. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the 3 days and can't wait to come back next year (bear in mind this is a shy child who initially found it hard to make friends when left to her own devices!) I feel the unwritten learning experiences of the workshops (social skills, organisation, respect etc.) were just as valid for me as the amazing musical education. Most of all Dave, the 3 days were just great fun!
Yours in admiration, Ian Bartle

The three days consisted of pupils being taken through various workshops, full band rehearsals, breakout groups and time with the brass quintet, Quintabile. The children also took part in an Easter "Brass" themed treasure hunt at the end of the week, to test their knowledge!

Feedback from parents and children was excellent, with children returning to the 2nd and 3rd days of the course with so much enthusiasm for learning even more that they already had!

A big thanks goes to Thornford Primary School and Ian Bartle, for providing such a great venue for the course.
