Pete Shutler Memorial Concert

October 9, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

The band are privileged to be a part of the Pete Shutler Memorial Concert.  The concert will host a number of musicians and friends of Pete.  The Yetties and the Town Band have been involved with many joint ventures over the years and it is with great pleasure that the band will play a short concert at 9.30pm on this evening.  More info is below and a copy of the event poster.

The passing of the Yetties’ accordionist Pete Shutler last September left a very significant void in the musical life of the West Country, and in that of the broader folk music world; his legacy and influence on other artistes over the years has been incalculable. For decades he was an outstanding ambassador for his home county of Dorset, for the West Country in general, and above all for the music and culture that he loved so much.

With that in mind, and in order to celebrate the life and music of this remarkable (and most accessible) of musicians, a concert has been arranged which will feature a few of the many artistes whose musical careers were assisted by Pete’s encouragement and practical help.

Pete Coe, a nationally respected singer, musician and step dancer, will headline the concert. Like many others in the evening’s guest list, he feels he has much to thank Pete for, especially in the early stages of his long career in folk music. Sharing top billing will be Tim van Eyken, who attributes his musical prowess to Pete’s tuition. His career has seen him play with some of the top folk bands in the country, and he is currently making waves in the acting world of the West End.

Supporting these two will be contributions from the Yetties’ own Bonny Sartin and Nick Pickett, whose musical career took him from Yeovil Folk Club to the top ten. In addition, there will be dancing on stage from the Yetminster Irish Dancers and an appearance by Sherborne Town Band, who worked closely with Pete and the Yetties over the years. The audience will be greeted by a performance by Wessex Morris, of which Pete was a member and musician, outside the Hall before the concert.

Tickets, priced at £15.00, are available from 01935-477884 and all proceeds will go to the Friends of the Yeatman Hospital, where Pete spent his final days.
