The Sherborne Town Band was only formed in 1961 but can trace its past back into the 19th century when the town had an active wind band. Photographs from the late 1890's are displayed in the band room

The Band was formed in 1961 to celebrate the retirement of the Boys Brigade Bandmaster, Charlie Parsons MBE, the Town Band has provided a musical backdrop for the town and the surrounding villages ever since. There are founder member’s sons, grandsons and granddaughters still playing in the band today.

Despite its relatively young age the Band has enjoyed considerable contest success including being crowned National 3rd Section Champions of Great Britain in 1965 and several years competing at the top level in the championship section. We are currently graded in the Championship section and have recently seen success in the South West Brass Band Championships, gaining first prize - this was a great success for the band. The band have also performed at the 2011 Yeovil Entertainment Contest and came 9th our of 12 bands, which was a great achievement for the band and means that we will be invited back next year!

The Band performs at many events in and around the town; The Sherborne Castle Country Fair, the Historic Vehicle Rally, organized by Rotary, the Armistice Day of Remembrance, Christmas carol services and it’s own ”Last Night of the Proms” concert, at the end of September, to name but a few.

The monthly subs are charged at £12 per month to all members. Funds go towards keeping the band and the band practice room going all year round.
